Sunset Park
Though one of the more sedate sections of the Wonderland Trail, what Sunset Park lacks in jaw-dropping scenery it more than makes up for in solitude. One of the least visited areas of the park, Sunset Park and Golden Lakes lack day hikers, favored instead by Wonderland through-hikers. Enjoy tranquil old-growth forests, a ridgeline shrouded in bear grass, and one of the nicest backcountry camps in the park. Then watch a setting sun brush the surrounding small lakes golden. It’s a softer, less experienced side of Rainier.
